With the kids out for the morning, we walked around to a nearby mall, A turn or two later led us into the Kowloon Walled City Park.
The De La Salle Santiago Zobel Symphonic Band performed in front of the Art of Animation, Disneyland Hong Kong last November 27, 2015, fresh from receiving its Gold Award from the 7th Winter Band Festival. PHOTO GALLERY Nov 27, 2015 De La Salle Zobel Symphonic Band Photos @ Disneyland HK The day after.. The day after, the band gamely played their set at the Happiest Place on Earth. Good job DLSZ Symphonic Band, we are all proud of your accomplishments. Animo La Salle! Nov 27, 2015 De La Salle Zobel Symphonic Band on the way to Disneyland HK With the DLSZ band kids out for the the afternoon, decided to stay behind. Mike , Gary's reliable project manager for this trip, got a few of my cameras coz i realized the kids' parents miss them terribly. told him to take some photos at the workshop. He's the guy we thank for the HKIS photos. With a fitbit on my wrist nagging me to walk around, and nothing to do for the afternoon until my wife arrives tonight midnight, I asked Gary if i can tag along wherever he is going. Typical of a musician(Gary plays violin at the Pen at nights), we walked towards a music shop for his fix. Sharing these photos. Going back we wandered into a market and the smell of roasted pork caught our attention. Got some for our trumpet boys to supplement their hefty rice dinner! DLSZ Symphonic Band gets Gold! With just a few people from DLSZ attending the WBF 2015 awards night, we all waited for news. Gary SMSed the news and given the band's hard work and sacrifices put in, the gold validates the commitment the band members and teachers to their craft. I relayed via Viber to all parents staying up late night to wait for the news as well. Over breakfast... With two workshops to attend today, kids are having their breakfast early. As soon as Ms. Nena started reviewing the yesterday's performance at the Winter Band Festival 2015 , the kids started gathering around and listened in. Such shared passion for music unifies them into one. After lunch, the band went to the HKIS for their exchange programThank you,HKIS!Back from 2 work shops for the day..With the kids back from their workshop by 6 pm, we still have a few good hours to spend before my wife arrives late night (she's flying after work from Manila just to watch the band play). I was looking for a nearby place where we can walk around before we call the day. Kids are anticipating news from the WBF 2015 awards night so best we take the worries and walk it off. Luckily, I caught up with a co-band parent who already went and shared there's a spot in Mongkok that can meet every shoe shoppers find. And it did not disappoint. While other shops stack their shoes side ways in rows to fill the wall, this shop stacked them facing would be buyers. You see, I saw how these junior and senior boys are --- SUPER busy assisting in both the band logistics and various errands during the week long full day preparation during APEC week, they deserve a quick respite as I knew they are all praying for the best results asked of the group. Hosting them for a few hours to show our appreciation for their tireless effort in looking after the younger band kids (food orders, other runs o there are lots).
So we "adopted" kids for the evening and cabbed to Mongkok, head count every other stop and skipped snack stops entirely to bring the kids back to rest up as committed. On our way back to get a taxi, I SMSed Garry to check and the results are in ---- its GOLD! and the group with me are all so happy hearing the news! On behalf of all the band parents, thank you boys for caring for your younger band members! Hopefully next time we can grow the group we can take to yet another adventure. Yet another night well spent. Nov 25, morningAfter a nights rest, the breakfast buffet started everyone's day right and done before 9am. With their 30-minute long tones practice done before 10am, there's time to spare until lunch arrives 1230pm. I chose to do a quick 10 minute walk with Sean along the Kowloon Walled City Park (behind the Regal Oriental Hotel) to bond and just enjoy Hong Kong's cooler weather than be in our room or the hotel's high traffic lobby which allows just 15 minutes internet access daily. A few of the boys asked if they can come,I layed the ground rule and we walked to a nearby Mc Donald's for their internet access to updated their loved ones plus a much needed change in scenery. I got to know the group better and its so reassuring my youngest is in such great company. A time well spent, and back just before 12pm in time for lunch.
